November 15, 2018 was a momentous day for collegiate esports as the newly dubbed USC Esports Union made its public debut at the University of Southern California's annual Conquest rally in a League of Legends match up against the University of California Los Angeles' League of Legends Esports team! The two teams faced off in a single heated match upon the main Conquest stage to which UCLA's esports team emerged victorious from a close match, to which USC responded with a victory on the second match.
With this move, there is now motion to ushering in esports as an officially-recognized and sponsored sport at USC, which the USC ESU is supporting teams in League of Legends, Overwatch, and Super Smash Bros. Following the huge success of UC Irvine's move in recognizing its esports program, things are only looking up as USC helps to push the movement and growth of the esports community.
It was an absolute pleasure being invited to cover and partake in this event and be a part of such a momentous movement. Fight On!
